Metal Optics
A parabolic lens geometry of the refracting surfaces is best suited to focus hard X-rays. 2D and 1D metal X-ray optics are fabricated using a pressing technique for metals such as Be, Al, and Ni. We produce lenses with a relatively large aperture with radii greater than 50 μm that are capable of focusing a beam along with one and both transverse directions. Our metal refractive lenses have compact circular frames with a 1 mm thickness and diameter of 12 mm. All refractive lenses are UHV compatible.
A compound refractive lens (CRL) is a set of single X-ray refractive lenses arranged in a linear array to achieve focusing of X-rays in the 2-100 keV energy range at modern synchrotron radiation sources and at free-electron lasers. The main applications of CRL at Megascience facilities are focusing, collimation, monochromatization, suppression of high harmonics, and transport of X-rays.

2D X-Ray Lenses
2D Refractive lens sets are widely used for high-resolution coherent full-field, scanning and diffraction microscopy, darkfield microscopy, interferometry, Fourier analysis, source diagnosis, and micro- and nano-beam generation for HR diffractometry, scattering, and spectroscopy applications. Refractive lenses can be used for efficient beam control on laboratory X-ray sources.

1D X-Ray Lenses
1D metal refractive lenses have compact circular frames with a 1 mm thickness and special frame design (available in strictly horizontal/vertical working position, ± 45° or free working angle). The main applications of 1D optics at Megascience facilities are beam shaping in one direction, line focusing, collimation, monochromatization, suppression of high harmonics.
